Ok, folks! We are confirmed for the field trip on 2/23/09 to the Photo Epicenter, the gallery and darkroom in San Francisco run by Ray and Dave Potes who founded & produce Hamburger Eyes "the most epic magazine ever!" This is going to be an awesome opportunity to check out some incredible work and see a fantastic facility that houses a diverse photographic community of people making art. You will love their sites so check em out ASAP! Details about when and where to meet will follow in the next few weeks...

Event assignment - DUE 2/13

Your next assignment is to research and shoot at least 100 images of an event either on campus or in your community (keep it very local). Be sure to take careful notes so you can include captions with your five final images posted to your blog. This assignment is due 2/13.

In addition to the slide show in class here are some links of some photo essays documenting the Obama Inauguration. Please feel free to post additional links (inaugural or other events/news photos) in the comments to this blog.

Decisive Moment

Welcome to my Digital Documentary blog. Look here in the future for info on assignments, links, resources, and images to inspire. I might also post some images I take along the way. We'll see...

So your first assignment is to photograph the "Decisive Moment" a phrase coined by Henri Cartier-Bresson. As he said in the movie The Impassioned Eye, "Yes, no, yes, no, no, yes." You must shoot at least 250 images RAW and pick one that captures that exact moment where everything is perfectly in sync. Turn in digital contacts of all images shot along with one image as a tiff file. This assignment is due 1/30 at the start of class.

Please bring in a small portfolio of your images to share in the next class. I will also assign the next assignment "Campus Event" and have some open lab time to go over your images for Decisive Moment and research an even to photograph on campus. The image I am posting is the one I was telling you about taken with an iphone. Look, ma! No shutter!

Please do not forget to start your blog or if you already have one then just start posting to it for this class. Be sure to set up your account to notify me when you post (I can help with this if you need it).
